HHF presenting Fferm Gwenffrwd Welsh Ponies
Dr. Laurence W. Roberts acquired his first Welsh pony in 1982 and has been breeding quality ponies ever since. He has bred all four sections but currently is focusing on Sections A,B, and D. Dr. Roberts was a licensed Welsh breed judge until retiring in 2022. He had the rare honor of judging at the prestigious Demby and Flint show in Wales. He has also imported six Welsh over the years including the well-known stallions Nantydywll Capten (Sec. A) and Hilin Peredur (Sec B).
In 2020, Chrissy Southwick was invited to become a full partner in Fferm Gwenffrwd. Her skills in training, riding, teaching, showing, and breeding, are unmatched. Forty years Dr. Roberts’ junior, she will carry Fferm Gwenffrwd into the future with the same dedication and passion that are required to produce top Welsh ponies and cobs.

National Breed Champion

Sadly, we announce the passing of our beloved stallion, *Nantdywyll Capten, at the age of 26.
At age two, he was the WPCSA national youngstock champion. He went on to receive more accolades in the breed ring before we retired him to green pastures where he kept watch, with visible pride, over his mares and foals. Capten sired 51 registered Welsh and a sizable but unknown number of unregistered Welsh. We are expecting his last three foals spring of 2024.
The apples did not fall far from the tree. He passed on to his offspring his gentle disposition, intelligence, playfulness, and love of people. In anticipation of Capten’s eventual passing, we retained his son Fferm Gwenffrwd Swagger, age four (dam:Shenandoah Barndance). We expect him to follow in his father’s hoof prints.
